About Me

Philosophy & Values

My name is Sean (he/him), and I'm a violinist, violist, pianist, educator, and composer based in central Ohio. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Miami University in December 2023, with degrees in Music Education (Instrumental) and Violin Performance. I speak English & French, and have a passion for symphonic, Irish traditional, alt rock, and electronic music.

I firmly believe that any person can succeed in music. Quality music education should be offered to all students, regardless of dis/ability, race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, or any other affective factor.

My studio is a Safe Space. As a member of both the neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ communities, I know how difficult it can be to find your place in the musical world. I take care to make my classroom a place where everyone can be comfortable as their truest selves.

I place great value on the complex relationships between the mind, body, and music. As a result, my teaching combines elements of the Alexander Technique & the Suzuki, Dalcroze, and Kodály methods. My overall philosophy of teaching centers around mindful movement: when we understand the body and how it moves, we can more easily understand how to interact with music.

My lessons incorporate Mindfulness, the practice of being present, aware and non-judgmental. Mindfulness is a key aspect of music that is often overlooked; many musicians and students learn to be overly-critical of their own playing and drive the flame of their passion for music to extinction as a result. I help my students learn to take a step back and observe their playing with a mindful ear and eye, fostering improvement through care & support.

My Experience

2020-2023

Co-Concertmaster

Miami University Symphony Orchestra (MUSO)

As the Concertmaster of MUSO, my job entailed working with my peers and colleagues to ensure the success of our orchestra. I led sectional rehearsals, interpreted our Maestro's conducting, and determined bowings.
